Free Sherlock - verdict
So it would appear that the Free Sherlock
campaign is celebrating victory over the Conan Doyle Estate. But what
difference does it really make?
In due time, details will appear here.
It’s presumably a big deal for people who sell books or make
films for the US market but beyond that what difference does it make? People
releasing books in Europe (and most of the rest of the world) will see no
obvious difference (as this does not alter whatever legal position exists anywhere else in the world); and certain other parties who lay claim to the Sherlock Holmes
name are unlikely to cease their activities which means that people worldwide
hardly have a clear legal field to do what they want.
Presumably the Estate could appeal so I think people need to put the corks back in the champagne bottles.
