William Hope - Photograpaher of Spirits
My most recent book No Better Place spent a good deal of time covering the subject of Spiritualism and Spirit Photographs.
One notable taker of such photographs was Crewe based William Hope. Arthur Conan Doyle believed in him implicitly and defended him against accusations of fraud from investigator Harry Price.
Below is one of Hope's photographs in which you can see Conan Doyle centre left with his wife Jean directly behind him.
Needless to say, Price proved Hope to be fraudulent but this did not shake Conan Doyle's belief in Hope. More on this can be read in my book.
