Today's celebs have it easy

Barely a day goes by when some celebrity or other is not complaining about their portrayal in the media. I'm not saying that they don't get unfairly treated but they have it easy compared to some.

By this I am referring to Arthur Conan Doyle. I am coming to the end of my first draft of the year 1922 which encompasses his Spiritualist tour of the United States and the publication, after his return to England, of The Coming of the Fairies.

Shackled to Sherlock with his head in the clouds?

The British newspaper Daily Express had appointed itself the vehicle for anti-Doyle/anti-Spiritualist criticism some years before but had had little chance to attack him since early 1920 because of his absence first in Australia and New Zealand and then the United States.

On the very day his book on fairies was published the paper mocked him declaring that fairies clearly do exist because Conan Doyle tells us - "That settles it".
