Some local news.

Arthur Conan Doyle lived in the Surrey town of Haslemere for six months before moving to nearby Hindhead. Haslemere doesn't make much of the connection regrettably but this changed, in a small way, around three years ago.

In that year the local community, to raise money for charity, came up with the idea of making a large number of pigs which were then decorated by the community, positioned in the town and surrounding areas, for all to enjoy, before being sold off for charity. The animal in each case has to start with H. So the first year it was the Haslemere Hogs.

The school at Undershaw (ACD's former home) sponsored one called Sherlock Hams.

The following year (last year) it was the Haslemere Hares where, alas, it appears no attempt at a Sherlockian Hare was attempted.

This year it is the Haslemere Hounds. I think we're all crossing our fingers for an all too clearly needed Sherlockian angle. Here's one celebrating gin just to give you and idea.
