It's all a bit quiet isn't it?

Apologies to my readers but I'm struggling to find much to blog about.

From my perspective there is not much noteworthy going on in the world of Sherlock Holmes at the moment. Endless articles on the web about when Sherlock series 4 might enter production and be shown and article about Elementary do little for me.

It feel like people are desperate to stoke the embers in an effort to keep the fire alight.

  1. I feel you, Alistair! On tumblr former Sherlock blogs are dying like flies or being re-themed and remodelled. From what I see interest is definitely waning.

    1. Interest in BBC Sherlock? Or Doyle's Sherlock Holmes?

  2. I meant BBC Sherlock. But if interest in Sherlock dwindles, it 'll also not stir anymore interest in ACD's SH.

    1. Well, I'll have to respectfully disagree on the last part of your statement as I feel that interest in Doyle's Holmes has a "background constant" that exists outside of the fluctuation of popular culture. Agreed that there will be a lessening of the current level of interest, if there is a drop off if interest in BBC Sherlock, but there will always be an interest in Doyle's creation.

Personally, I think that Moffat and Gatiss need to hold Cumberbatch and Freeman to specific timetable as to the schedule of filming of BBC Sherlock--thirteen episodes in seven years can only be detrimental to the BBC Sherlock brand and stretches fan loyalty to its limits, despite how creative they are in filling the downtime.

  3. I didn't mean to deny ACD's background popularity, just that apparently sales of the canon quadrupled from the usual numbers since Sherlock started (I've read) and that will wane, too, when enthusiasm for the show dwindles.

    1. Actor-in-roles will come and go, Holmes predates and will postdate them all--he'll date none of them, I'm sure.
