I think she was written as a nod to the strong female characters in the Canon. In addition to saving Sherlock from his attacker in the Chinese circus, she also gave useful inputs in the solving of the cryptic messages.

B2B.Arunhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16498276962097853996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2956288600403860320.post-72866229498398351762013-05-17T14:07:36.791+01:002013-05-17T14:07:36.791+01:00My favourite is little Lucy from The Yellow Face.....My favourite is little Lucy from The Yellow Face... Perhaps not a strong character, but a strong symbol for hope of a better society. (I love the fairy tale ending of that story, so many SH stories end in tragedy.)
Bookworm and Physics Teacherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06417374719253696758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2956288600403860320.post-18050173963142752392013-05-17T13:33:50.749+01:002013-05-17T13:33:50.749+01:00As you say, the fourth Violet, while not overtly w...As you say, the fourth Violet, while not overtly weak, is not a stand-out character. The three I referred to all show some real steel and it is Smith's pursuit of the cyclist that I always enjoy. She might not be a striking example of a strong woman, but she seems one of very few who fearlessly stands up to Holmes and has undoubtedly earned his respect.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12988069281729495524noreply@blogger.com
