We have a trailer and I love the look of it

Last night saw the release of a reasonable length trailer for the Victorian Sherlock special.

I'm impressed with it and think it bodes well. This despite the "damn hat" remark.

  1. The cinematography looks nice so far, but everyone except Watson looks just awful imo.

    1. I disagree. I think they all look pretty good.

  2. You cannot seriously tell me that you like poor Lestrade with those hedges in his face! And the loss of Sherlock's curls is well nigh unbearable. As I just said on tumblr I started watching the show because here was the first Sherlock who was young and beautiful. If I were interested in middle-aged Sherlocks, I'd have had my pick.

    1. The difference is that you never pretended to be a fan of the Victorian Holmes. I very much am and I feel that the characters are in keeping. Just check out the original Paget illustrations for a yardstick. Sherlock with curls in a Victorian setting would have been plain wrong.

  3. You're right with regard to the illustrations. But Victorian men had curls! Byronic was a thing even then! And even if not - why suddenly pretend to be über-accurate when you don't even bother to fact check terms like sociopath or the legal system in foreign countries?

    1. In my limited experience of adaptations, we tend to be more forgiving of errors with contemporary Sherlocks. However, when we go back to the Victorian version certain things are expected. Adherence to the Paget illustrations is one such expectation. Plus I also suspect they wanted clear blue water between the visual styles.
